New family health and wellbeing hub underway in Adelaide

Construction has commenced on a new health and wellbeing hub in Elizabeth Vale, set to provide services for children and families in Adelaide's north.

Located adjacent to Lyell McEwin Hospital, the three-level facility will provide child development and family support services, including student-supported health clinics, multipurpose community spaces, short-stay areas and a dedicated space for parents of infants in care.

Designed by Studio Nine Architects, the building will feature a fully glazed ground floor containing flexible gathering and event spaces. Consultation and short-stay areas will occupy the upper levels, set behind a curved batten-like screen that filters light while creating privacy.

Studio Nine Architects project lead Jess Alderslade said the design aims to de-institutionalise traditional healthcare architecture, creating an environment that feels generous, restorative and adaptable. "The design team sought to break away from traditional cold and unwelcoming perceptions of healthcare facilities, creating a place that feels inclusive and connected to the broader Elizabeth Vale community," said Alderslade.

The project, led by the Women's and Children's Hospital (WCH) Foundation, received $26 million in federal funding in February 2025 through the Urban Precincts and Partnerships Program.

The hub is scheduled to open in mid-2027.
